BIBLE INSPIRED DATING TIPS
Ever wonder why your relationships never seem to work out? Maybe it's time to see what the Bible has to say about relationships and the way we act and think about them. Here are a few examples (not a complete list):
(1) Be bold. Proverbs 28:1 says that "The righteous are as bold as a lion." Boldness is not something to shy away from. Just be sure this doesn't mean sacrificing class.
(2) Be humble. Ephesians 4:2 says "Be completely humble and gentle." Being humble doesn't mean being a pushover or being meek. It is possible to be confident and believe in ourselves while still being humble.
(3) Don't look at porn. Matthew 5:28 says "Anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart" and later in 1 Thessalonians 4:8 it says that "anyone who rejects this instruction does not reject a human being but God." The Bible takes lust very seriously. It can separate us from God. Definitely not something to be casual about.
(4) Love your wife like Christ loved the church. Ephesians 5:25 says "Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her." This is a serious challenge. That is a serious example of love that we are supposed to be copying.
(5) Serve others. Galatians 5:13 says "Do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.” Serving not only develops our character, but it can also have a side benefit of being a great place to meet people.
(6) Be godly/righteous. 1 Timothy 6:11 says that we should "pursue righteousness and godliness." This is a very high standard that takes focus and determination.
(7) Love others. 1 Corinthians 13:4-5 says that "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs." This high standard for love is the only way to do it right.
(8) Don't be lazy. Proverbs 13:4 says "A sluggard's appetite is never filled, but the desires of the diligent are fully satisfied." Nobody wants someone who acts like a bum.
(9) Don't over flatter. Proverbs 6:28 says "a flattering mouth works ruin." Many people seem to think that blowing sugar will win people over. The opposite is actually true. Being fake, even in a positive way, will often turn people off.
(10) Don't be unequally yoked. 2 Corinthians 6:14 says "Do not be yoked together with unbelievers." Anyone thinking about marriage should take this verse very seriously. Being with someone with different beliefs (or even a differently level of commitment) is asking for trouble.
(11) Don't be casual about sex. Ephesians 5:3 says that even a "hint of sexual immorality" is wrong. Ouch. Being called to not even have a hint of it shows just how serious the Bible is about making mistakes in this area.
(12) Be healthy. 1 Corinthians 6:19 says that our "bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit." Take care of yourself and you will look and feel much better.
(13) Get a job. 2 Thessalonians 3:10 says "The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.” There is a difference in being after someone's money and wanting someone who has a life.
(14) Look for the right qualities in a mate. Proverbs 31:30 says that "A woman who fears the Lord is to be praised." We should be careful about getting too caught up on looks. It would be crazy to suggest that looks don't matter at all, but there are other things that should be valued as well.
If the way that you have been doing relationships hasn't been working for you, maybe it's time to think about looking to the Bible for ideas.
Good luck!
